Job summary

GRTC Transit System in Richmond, VA, is seeking a full-time maintenance worker to monitor and maintain bus stops, stations, and passenger amenities. The role requires cleaning, basic repairs, and ensuring safety and cleanliness at all locations.

You will perform power steam cleaning, operate tools and vehicles, and coordinate with the Maintenance Department for repairs and preventive maintenance. Nights/weekends and outdoor work are involved.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Experience in cleaning and operating basic repair equipment and tablet required.
• Must be able to use all power and hand tools required by the work involved.
• Must be able to operate power steam cleaning equipment.
• Must be able to operate vehicles (trucks) used in this work, including the ability to drive a truck pulling an equipment trailer.
• Must be able to read maps, understand, and follow geographical directions to locations designated for repair and cleaning.
• Must be able to follow written and oral instructions, schedules, procedures, and directions.

Responsibilities

• Provides power steam cleaning of bus stop pads and locations using power steam cleaning equipment.
• Cleans bus stop and transit center surfaces with detergents and solvents.
• Clears debris, overgrown vegetation, and snow; address emergencies.
• Drives to inspect transit stops and stations and submit work orders for repairs.
• Installs bus stop poles and signs; frames and pours concrete pads as needed.
• Uses hand and power tools to repair and maintain bus stop fixtures.
• Changes posters at stops and uses a pressure washer to remove graffiti; touch up paint.
• Drives trucks and pulls trailers with power equipment.
• Reads blueprints and diagrams for installations.
• Maintains inventory of tools and coordinates with Maintenance for repairs.
