Hampton Roads Transit seeks dynamic, customer-service oriented trainers to join a committed team delivering quality public transportation in the Hampton Roads region. The role focuses on developing instructional materials, delivering classroom and on-the-job training, evaluating competency, and aligning training with safety and regulatory requirements.
A two-year degree in automotive or EV maintenance and at least five years of teaching or transit vehicle maintenance experience are preferred.

Proficiency in using computer systems and the listed software applications associated with performance of assigned work is essential. Basic problem-solving skills associated with software applications used is expected. Software usage relevant to job duties will be evaluated.
Advanced skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software, and specialized software related to functional areas to include but not limited to: MS Windows, MS Edge, MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook), SPEAR, Trapeze EAM, PeopleSoft, Luminator, Twin Vision, Adobe Reader, WinZip, Symantec, Cummins Insite, and Allison DOC.
Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect oneself, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures and policies. Take an active part in reporting unsafe conditions and any hazards within the workplace to their Supervisor, Manager and/or the Safety Department.
Knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature, which may be obtained with a two (2) year Associate degree, diploma or equivalent from an accredited college, technical business, vocational, or correspondence school in Automotive or Electric vehicle maintenance field.
Additional directly related experience beyond the minimum requirement may substitute for the required education based on the ratio of one and a half (1.5) years of experience for each (1) year of education.
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in teaching the diagnosis, maintenance and/or repair of transit vehicles (Bus/LRV), diesel engines, electrical propulsion motors and related equipment. A combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the criterion listed above and satisfies the knowledge, skills, and abilities requirements will also be considered.
Ability to pass DOT physical examination. This position is classified as essential personnel.
