Job summary

The Town of Blacksburg, VA is seeking a Transit Mechanic Foreman to supervise vehicle maintenance, diagnose complex issues, and manage a shift including evenings and weekends. You will oversee staff, schedule repairs, and ensure safety standards are met across hybrid, gasoline, diesel, and electric buses and support vehicles.

Responsibilities include directing a maintenance crew, coordinating inspections, performing repairs as needed, and generating accurate work orders and reports.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• ASE or Auto Mechanics Certification or an Associate's degree or equivalent.
• Supervisory experience in a maintenance or mechanical shop.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.

Responsibilities

• Supervises mechanics and crew leaders, assigns and trains staff.
• Coordinates vehicle maintenance scheduling and reports status.
• Performs diagnostic and repair work on hybrid, gasoline, diesel, and electric vehicles.
• Oversees inspections, preventive maintenance, and safety compliance.
• Generates work orders and tracks parts used.
• Responds to after-hours calls and road emergencies.
