Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee is seeking an Outreach Specialist for Transit Homeless Outreach to engage directly with individuals experiencing homelessness in NYC's transit system, providing hands-on support and connecting them to housing and services.

This full-time, 37.5-hour/week, field-based role offers training in harm reduction, supervision, tuition assistance, and opportunities to work across boroughs within a mission-driven team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build trust and work in the field.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel across boroughs.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct street-based outreach in transit locations.
• Connect clients to housing, medical, mental health, and substance use services.
• Complete brief assessments, provide escorts, and referrals.
• Document outreach activity and client interactions.
• Work primarily in high-need areas across boroughs.
• Collaborate with partner agencies and outreach teams.
