Job summary

The City of Fredericksburg is seeking part-time Transit Operators with CDL to transport passengers across Fredericksburg and surrounding counties. You will operate on designated routes, maintain schedules and ensure passenger safety.

Starting hourly rate is $19.99. The role requires weekends, DOT medical clearance, and a CDL; applicants must pass background checks and random drug testing.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CDL license required; DOT medical card and able to pass DOT physical.
• Pass criminal record check and drug testing.
• Must be able to work weekends.
• Prior bus driving experience preferred.
• Must pass random drug testing as required by DOT.

TRANSIT OPERATORS – PART TIME - CDL REQUIRED

Responsibilities

• Transport passengers on designated routes within the transit system’s service area, including the City of Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania County and Stafford County.
• Ensure safety of customers and equipment.
• Provide good customer service, oversee passenger safety, fare collection.
• Work independently with minimal supervision, maintain bus schedule adherence, arrive on time to work.
• Assist passengers as needed.
• Complete daily pre‑trip and vehicle inspections.
• Clean & fuel the vehicle, check equipment is in safe operating condition.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Bus driver training and one (1) year of experience driving a commercial or passenger vehicle preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Must be able to work weekends.
• Must pass DOT physical examination and maintain it while employed with FRED Transit.
• Ability to pass a criminal record check and physical abilities testing.
• Employment subject to post‑hiring random drug testing as required by the Department of Transportation.
• Position requires a CDL.
