Reports To: Transit Operations Supervisor
Performs responsible semiskilled work in the safe and proper operation of commercial transit vehicles. Provides direction from the Transit Operations Supervisor and occasionally other management and office personnel.
General knowledge of principles and practices of operating a commercial transit passenger vehicle; thorough knowledge of traffic laws and regulations; general knowledge of the skill and care required in operating the equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; dependability; and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
High‑school graduation or equivalent; considerable experience in operating motorized equipment; good customer‑relations skills.
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, and negligible effort constantly, and some medium work requiring up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently, with reaching, pushing, fingering, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required; hearing and visual acuity are necessary for operating the vehicle and for observing surroundings.
