The City of Fredericksburg, Virginia is seeking a Part-Time Transit Operator to provide safe and efficient transportation within the transit system. With a starting hourly rate of $19.99, this role involves maintaining passenger safety, performing vehicle inspections, and ensuring adherence to schedules.
The ideal candidate must hold a valid CDL, possess a high school diploma or GED, and demonstrate good customer service skills. Weekend work is required, along with passing a DOT physical and a criminal record check.
STARTING HOURLY RATE: $19.99
Responsible for transporting passengers on designated routes within the transit system’s service area, including the City of Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania County, and Stafford County. The Transit Operator is responsible for the safety of customers and equipment, providing good customer service, overseeing passenger safety, fare collection, working independently with minimal supervision, maintaining bus schedule adherence, arriving on time to work, assisting passengers as needed, completing daily pre‑trip and vehicle inspections, cleaning and fueling the vehicle, and checking to ensure all equipment is in safe operating condition.
Qualifications: A high school diploma or GED equivalent, bus driver training and at least one (1) year of experience driving a commercial or passenger vehicle preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be able to pass a DOT physical examination and maintain this while employed with FRED Transit, pass a criminal record check, and meet physical abilities testing requirements. The position will require a CDL and will involve weekend work. Employment is subject to post‑hiring random drug testing in accordance with Department of Transportation requirements.
