Job summary

The City of Huntsville's Public Transit Department seeks a Transit Operations Supervisor to lead bus operators, dispatchers, and paratransit staff.

Responsibilities include coaching for on-time service, directing daily routes, ensuring policy compliance, and providing escalation for customer issues. A high school diploma or GED and five years of transit-related supervisory experience are required; Class D license and Class B CDL with P endorsement within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide training and guidance to staff on service standards and safety.

About our Department:

The goal of the Public Transit Department is to provide adequate and efficient community transportation services for the general public. Fixed Route Bus Service on 12 routes and 45 employees.

Transit Operations Supervisor at a Glance:

This is a supervisory role responsible for training, directing, coaching, and assisting bus operators, paratransit operators, and dispatchers to ensure safe, on-time, and customer-friendly fixed route bus service, special event transportation, and paratransit service for the elderly and disabled. Work involves answering questions, making operational decisions, and directing to ensure correct policies, procedures, and practices are followed. The incumbent will be the first level of escalation for difficult customer issues. Coordinates daily routes for assigned bus operators. Assigns vehicles and coordinates scheduling to ensure adequate route coverage for service runs.

Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:

High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency with a minimum of five (5) years' experience as a Public Transit Bus or Paratransit Operator, Public Transit Dispatcher, or successfully supervising 5 or more Public Transit Bus Operators, Paratransit Operators, or equivalent supervisory experience in a service related business or industry. Public Transit Operations experience preferred.

Must possess a valid Class D Driver's License upon hire.

Must obtain and maintain a Class B CDL License with Passenger Endorsement within 6 months of hire date or promotion date.
