Job description

Join the Metro Transit Maintenance Team! We are looking for a leader who has the following:

  • Ability to effectively lead a large, diverse staff
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize, and organize

This is an exciting full-time position overseeing, directing, and evaluating the activities of workers engaged in the maintenance of transit vehicles and equipment. Metro's fleet includes diesel, hybrid, electric, and articulated buses. The role involves planning and maintaining work schedules according to established procedures. Employees operate independently under the supervision of Transit Maintenance Managers.

Note: Work may include evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Supervision
  • Schedule and supervise all repairs and maintenance of Metro vehicles
  • Assign employees to road calls
  • Monitor and direct bus servicing and special assignments
  • Manage maintenance radio communications
  • Plan, supervise, and control maintenance activities
  • Investigate grievances, conduct misconduct hearings, and determine disciplinary actions
  • Resolve complaints and recommend solutions
  • Train and evaluate apprentice mechanics
Operation Oversight
  • Review vehicle problems, direct repairs, and log repair orders
  • Assist with troubleshooting and parts requisition
  • Provide guidance on complex repairs, including electrical and mechanical systems
  • Manage the Maintenance Office, including communication, record-keeping, and reporting
  • Ensure building security and monitor building systems
  • Supervise snow removal and emergency repairs

Qualifications include:

  • At least 3 years of combined technical and leadership experience, including at least 1 year in a leadership role and 1 year in computer-related tasks, OR
  • Two years of education in a related field substituting for one year of technical experience

Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver's License is required.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand/sit for long periods, access maintenance areas, lift up to 30 lbs with assistance, and respond to emergencies. Night and weekend work may be required. On-site work is mandatory.
