Join the Metro Transit Maintenance Team!

We are looking for a leader who has the following qualifications and skills:

Position Overview

This is an exciting full-time role involving overseeing, directing, and evaluating the activities of a team engaged in maintaining transit vehicles and equipment. Our fleet includes diesel, hybrid, electric, and articulated buses. Responsibilities include planning and maintaining work schedules according to established procedures. Employees operate independently under the supervision of Transit Maintenance Managers.

Note: This position may require evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Employees may be eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

Supervision Responsibilities
  • Schedule and supervise all repairs and maintenance of Metro-owned vehicles
  • Assign employees to road calls
  • Monitor and direct bus servicing and special assignments
  • Manage the Maintenance radio communications
  • Plan, supervise, and control maintenance activities and staff
  • Investigate grievances and misconduct, and determine disciplinary actions
  • Address complaints and recommend solutions
  • Train and evaluate apprentice mechanics and new personnel
Operation Oversight
  • Review vehicle inspection findings and direct repairs
  • Assist in troubleshooting and parts requisition
  • Provide guidance on complex repairs, especially technical mechanical or electrical systems
  • Manage the Maintenance Office, including record-keeping and reporting
  • Ensure building security and monitor building systems
  • Supervise snow removal and emergency repairs
Qualifications

Minimum of three (3) years of combined technical experience (including at least one year in a leadership role), with expertise in heavy equipment, automotive repair, or similar fields, and one year of computer experience. Alternatively, two (2) years of relevant education in heavy equipment, automotive, or engineering fields may substitute for one year of technical experience.

Additional Requirements
  • Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver's License
  • Ability to work on-site, lift up to 30 lbs., and respond to emergency situations
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
