Job summary

The City of Fairfax is seeking entry-level skilled automotive technicians to maintain transit buses and a variety of fleet assets. Work includes diagnosis, repair, fabrication, setup, and decommissioning under supervision, with after-hours on-call rotation.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED plus automotive-related training and three years of experience in vehicular maintenance.
• Must meet Skill Base Pay requirements for Fleet Technician I.
• Virginia State Safety Inspector license or ability to obtain within 18 months.
• ASE xEV Level 1 certification or ability to obtain within 18 months.
• Must possess a Class A CDL with N, P, and air brakes endorsements (or obtain within 12 months).

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, diagnose issues, and repair transit buses and heavy/medium duty fleet vehicles.
• Repair vehicles in open bays under supervision with independent judgment.
• Determine equipment specifications for new vehicles and equipment.
• Repair components such as transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, electrical, and engine systems.
• Use diagnostic tools and computer systems to diagnose and service vehicles.

Education

ASE xEV Level 1 certification
