Job summary

City of Fairfax is seeking a Fleet Technician I to service and repair the fire department's diverse fleet, including light/medium/heavy vehicles. Responsibilities include diagnostics, mechanical repairs, and preventive maintenance in a shop environment that can be dusty and hot or cold.

Must have a valid Class A CDL and complete required certifications within stated timelines. The role offers a standard schedule Monday–Friday 6:00 am–2:30 pm with occasional overtime and on-call duties;

Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid Class A CDL with N, P, and air brakes endorsements within six months of employment.
  • Must obtain ASE xEV Level 1 certification within 12 months of employment.
  • Must obtain ASE 609 Refrigerant and Recovery within 12 months of employment.
  • Extensive experience and skill in repair and maintenance of fire department vehicles and heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform minor and major repairs on fire department fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Repair, service, and maintain air conditioning and heating units, pumps, engines, and powertrain components.
  • Inspect vehicles, diagnose faults with scan tools and dvoms, and repair hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Maintain OSHA compliance and ensure readiness of vehicles for emergency responses.
  • Work in open bays with exposure to dust, exhaust, heat, and cold conditions; work overtime and on-call as needed.
