Job summary

CDM Smith seeks a Transit Facility Structural Design Lead in the Chicago area to act as the senior technical authority for transit infrastructure structural design. You will own design delivery from concept through construction and guide multidisciplinary teams on complex projects.

Responsibilities include acting as Engineer of Record when needed, ensuring code compliance, and providing QA/QC across drawings and specs. Travel and mentorship of junior staff are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in Civil, Architectural or Structural Engineering.
• Professional engineering (PE) license is required or active.
• 10 years of related experience; travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design of transit infrastructure projects, including passenger stations and maintenance facilities.
• Serve as technical authority for structural systems and sign/seal calculations when required.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and ensure constructible, code-compliant designs.
• Review and approve structural drawings and specifications; provide QA/QC across projects.
• Support construction with RFIs and field coordination in active urban environments.
• Mentor junior engineers and develop technical leaders within the staff.
