Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking a Construction Inspector to join a Los Angeles-based project team supporting LACMTA’s Vermont Transit Corridor BRT. The role focuses on field inspection, plan interpretation, and ensuring conformance with contract requirements and safety standards.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of field experience on heavy transportation projects, proficiency with MS Office, and the ability to work independently within an employee-owned culture that values collaboration and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of field experience on heavy construction projects.
• Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook).
• Strong written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• HDR's Drug and Alcohol Policy; may require drug screening.
• Sponsorship for US employment is not available.

Responsibilities

• Visits construction sites and inspects each stage of construction up to completion.
• Assists in obtaining permits from utility companies for services to construction sites.
• Support and assist in monitoring construction sites for safety violations.
• Prepares non-conformance reports when work is not performed to the approved standards.
• Maintains daily activity logs and daily inspection reports (DIR) including project photos.
• Supports and assists in reviewing submitted shop drawings for deviations from contract documents.
• Supports and assists in reviewing and/or prepares interim progress reports for contractor payments.
• Supports and assists with monitoring contractor-testing activities.
• Prepares reports on labor, material, and equipment on site.
• Supports and assists in confirming construction conformance to plans and specifications; issues non-conformance reports as needed.
• Supports and assists with reviewing, approving, and rejecting construction materials based on conformance with specifications.
• Performs inspections of building and facility projects to determine quality of workmanship and materials.
• Arranges, coordinates, and supports overseeing special inspections such as structural masonry, welding, and reinforced concrete.
• Assists in maintaining a safe work environment in compliance with safety rules.
