Job summary

Los Angeles Metro is seeking a qualified bus/mechanical technician to support warranty claims and input for technical specifications of new buses and equipment. Under moderate supervision, you identify defects and help process warranty work.

Applicants should have extensive heavy equipment or automotive repair experience, ASE transit certifications are desirable, and a California Class A license. The role is based at Metro facilities in Los Angeles with travel to offsite locations as needed.

Qualifications

• 4 years' experience as a heavy equipment or automotive mechanic with at least 2 years as a bus mechanic.
• Six month full-time training program in automotive/truck maintenance; may substitute for up to 2 years non-bus experience.
• Current and verifiable full ASE Transit Certifications in H1-CNG, H3-Drive Train, H4-Brakes, H5-Suspension/Steering, H6-Electrical/Electronics is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Investigates and tests new bus malfunctions and parts failures
• Instructs Division mechanics during campaign modifications
• Assists in the development of design modifications for new buses and vehicular equipment
• Assists in the inspection of buses and related equipment at manufacturing sites and Metro property
• Assists in developing technical specifications for equipment purchases
• Prepares written correspondence and reports in support of warranty claims and relating to other work performed
• Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out
