Job summary

CTA in Chicago seeks skilled bus maintenance technicians to perform comprehensive repair and preventative maintenance on Authority buses, under direct supervision.

You will diagnose, repair, and test bus systems, record repair data in MMIS, and prepare required reports while operating vehicles in shop and on public rights-of-way. Requires a high school diploma and 2+ years of repair experience; CDL-B, drug screening, forklift cert, and ASE/EPA credentials are preferred.

  • Must be able to use test equipment and computers to diagnose malfunctions
  • Strong troubleshooting and repair skills
  • Ability to read diagrams and schematics
  • Good oral and written communication
  • Basic math and computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain bus systems and components
  • Inspect, align, replace, adjust, and repair bus components
  • Use instruments and gauges and testing equipment to determine causes of failures
  • Perform preventative maintenance on transit buses and systems
  • Record and verify repair data in MMIS and prepare reports
  • May service and clean revenue and non-revenue vehicles
  • Operate Authority buses and other vehicles in shop and on public right-of-way
  • Perform related duties as assigned
