Job summary

Southcentraltransit is seeking a skilled bus mechanic to inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair transit bus systems. Starting pay will be based on experience and credentials.

Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, using test instruments and computers, inspecting and repairing components, documenting work, and maintaining inventory. SCT offers rewarding employment conditions with excellent benefits and a drug-free workplace.

Qualifications

• Minimum 21 years of age with good driving history.
• Able to obtain or possess an IL state issued Class C CDL with passenger endorsement.
• Must meet all D.O.T. physical requirements.
• Submit to and pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
• Able to lift, carry, or move up to 50 pounds.
• Must possess own tools.
• Have proof of ASE certification or completion of Automotive/Diesel repair from an accredited school.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on transit bus vehicles.
• Use instruments and gauges, including computers, to test and determine system malfunctions.
• Inspect, align, replace, adjust, and repair various bus components and systems.
• Prepare written reports and verify that work was completed with documentation.
• Maintain inventory and records on stock parts and supplies.
