Qualifications

  • 21+ years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Professional experience maintaining and repairing vehicles, or completion of a vocational automotive or heavy-duty diesel program, associate's degree in automotive technology, Heavy Duty Diesel, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Placement within the Technician career path is based on experience and demonstrated competencies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge diagnosing, repairing and maintaining electrical, brake, powertrain, steering, suspension, and HVAC systems.
  • Experience on transit buses, motorcoaches, or fleet equipment is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (DOT MEC). TransWest covers certification costs.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT drug screen.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on motorcoaches, cutaway shuttles, light-duty vehicles, and electric vehicles.
  • Diagnose, repair, and replace engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, HVAC, electrical, fuel, and drivetrain components.
  • Review driver defect reports and maintenance schedules to minimize road calls and maximize vehicle availability.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, labor hours, repair documentation, and parts inventory.
  • Use OEM diagnostic software and OEM tools to troubleshoot vehicle systems and determine repair solutions.
  • Perform road tests, quality inspections, and field service calls as needed.
  • Support installation and troubleshooting of onboard vehicle technology including telematics and Wi‑Fi equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment and follow safety policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with Fleet leadership and technicians to ensure fleet reliability and safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
