Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking a dedicated Special Education teacher to coordinate instructional programs for students with disabilities and manage IEPs in alignment with state and federal guidelines.

You will monitor student progress, implement instructional strategies, and collaborate with staff; maintain confidentiality per FERPA and district policies. An essential role requires a Bachelor's degree and NC licensure eligibility for Exceptional Children teaching.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university.
  • Hold or be eligible for North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in Exceptional Children’s teaching area (not including licenses in Academically or Intellectually Gifted).

Responsibilities

  • Develops IEPs for students with disabilities; implements the IEP; uses diagnostic information to update IEPs as needed.
  • Implements instructional strategies and progress monitoring tools to provide specially designed instruction.
  • Assists students in completing curriculum tasks and meeting IEP goals.
  • Uses varied teaching methods, accommodations and modifications to meet student needs.
  • Monitors student behavior; maintains classroom discipline and deescalates inappropriate behaviors.
  • Evaluates student work and progress; coordinates progress report grades and report cards.
  • Attends IEP meetings and serves as a collaborative team member.
  • Stays abreast of trends and best practices through professional development and collaboration.
