Job summary

CrowdGen by Appen is seeking independent contractors to transcribe Amharic audio with high accuracy. You will listen to audio recordings, capture exact speech, add timestamps, and label speakers as part of building AI-powered speech recognition.

Working remotely from anywhere, you can set flexible hours and scale earnings by volume. Prior transcription experience and a stable internet connection are preferred; access to a PC/laptop or iPad is required for participation.

Qualifications

• Transcribe audio with high accuracy and fidelity to spoken content.
• Identify and label speakers and include non-speech cues when relevant.
• Add timestamps to align text with audio, where required.
• Review and apply transcription rules consistently across data.

Task Summary (What to Expect)

Your role in this project is to listen to audio recordings and create accurate written transcripts of what is spoken. These transcripts will help improve AI-powered speech recognition systems.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Transcribing audio recordings into text with high accuracy
• Capturing speech exactly as spoken, including pauses, filler words (e.g., "uh," "um"), repetitions, and incomplete sentences
• Adding timestamps to match the audio
• Identifying and labeling different speakers in conversations
• Marking non-speech events such as laughter, background noise, or unclear audio

Attention to detail and strong listening skills are important to ensure high-quality transcription output.

What We're Looking For

• Excellent knowledge of and familiarity with spelling conventions in Amharic language.
• Can be located anywhere, but must be fluent in Ethiopian dialect.
• Good reading comprehension skills in English.
• Stable internet connection.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to review examples and apply rules to the provided data.
• Prior experience with transcription.
• Prior experience with audio data.
• Access to a PC/laptop or an iPad.

Payments

You will be paid at the published rate per audio hour. Tasks are presented in units of varying audio lengths, and you may complete as many units as you wish. All submitted work must meet the required quality standards. Failure to meet quality requirements may result in task rejection. This is a project-based opportunity with CrowdGen, where you will join the CrowdGen Community as an Independent Contractor.
