Job summary

Hornblower Group is seeking a Tram Driver to operate the TRAM on Alcatraz Island, delivering friendly and professional service to visitors while maintaining the vehicle and ensuring safety. You will manage boarding lines and crowd control at the Alcatraz dock, and complete training as required to meet NPS procedures.

The position supports July–November operations, with shifts starting as early as 8:20 am and ending as late as 10:00 pm.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid, state-issued Driver’s License.
• Two years of customer service experience.
• TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Open schedule including holidays and weekends.
• Ability to work shifts from 8:20 am to 10:00 pm.

Responsibilities

• Drive tram safely per NPS SOPs and maintain safe boarding/de-boarding.
• Manage boarding lines and crowd control at the Alcatraz dock.
• Perform daily maintenance and safety checks and log results.
• Respond to emergencies per NPS procedures and train as required.
• Ensure on-time departures and provide visitor assistance.

Position Summary:

The driver is directly responsible for using the TRAM efficiently and safely on Alcatraz Island. This includes friendly and professional service to visitors, proper maintenance of the TRAM, and expert driving to provide comfort and minimize hazards. The tram driver also manages the boarding lines and all crowd control responsibilities at the Alcatraz dock. Position for July - November.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Drive tram safely, according to driving guidelines outlined by NPS Standard Operating Procedures
• Prepare SEAT for daily operations prior to beginning of the shift
• Assure that all daily maintenance and safety checks are performed and logged, reporting all maintenance requirements to Supervisor, within specified time frame
• Actively monitor and maintain a safe environment for visitors riding the tram and de -boarding
• Maintain, within safety guidelines, SEAT arrival and departure schedules
• Advise visitors, as necessary, of site safety
• Strictly follow driving guidelines outlines in the National Park Service SOP
• Manage the boarding and offloads of departures and arrivals; assure that boats depart in a timely manner
• Complete all training courses deemed appropriate to SEAT Driver job
• Be thoroughly familiar with NPS emergency procedures and respond should an emergency arise.
• Monitor and maintain a safe environment for riders and visitors walking on roadways.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Must have a valid, state-issued Driver’s License
• Must have clean driving record
• Preemployment Background - must be cleared
• Must have 2 years customer service experience
• TWIC required
• Must demonstrate good driving skills
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including conflict resolution skills
• Knowledge of another language in addition to English is preferred
• This position conducts random drug screenings
• Open schedule and ability to work any assigned schedule, including holidays and weekends
• Ability to work a shift that may start as early at 8:20 am or end as late as 10:00 pm. Shifts are 8 hours.
