Job summary

Hornblower Group is hiring a Tram Driver for Alcatraz Island in San Francisco. You will operate the TRAM safely, provide friendly visitor service, and manage boarding lines with crowd control at the Alcatraz dock.

Responsibilities include daily vehicle checks, adherence to National Park Service procedures, maintaining safety, and supporting on-time departures. A valid driver's license, TWIC, and strong communication skills are required; shift times vary, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid state-issued Driver's License.
• Must have clean driving record.
• Preemployment Background check required.
• Must have 2 years customer service experience.
• TWIC required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including conflict resolution.
• Knowledge of another language preferred.
• Open schedule with holidays and weekends; 8-hour shifts.

Position Summary

The driver is directly responsible for using the TRAM efficiently and safely on Alcatraz Island. This includes friendly and professional service to visitors, proper maintenance of the TRAM, and expert driving to provide comfort and minimize hazards. The tram driver also manages the boarding lines and all crowd control responsibilities at the Alcatraz dock. Union environment with bid schedules.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Drive tram safely, according to driving guidelines outlined by NPS Standard Operating Procedures
• Prepare SEAT for daily operations prior to beginning of the shift
• Assure that all daily maintenance and safety checks are performed and logged, reporting all maintenance requirements to Supervisor, within specified time frame
• Actively monitor and maintain a safe environment for visitors riding the tram and de -boarding
• Maintain, within safety guidelines, SEAT arrival and departure schedules
• Advise visitors, as necessary, of site safety
• Strictly follow driving guidelines outlines in the National Park Service SOP
• Manage the boarding and offloads of departures and arrivals; assure that boats depart in a timely manner
• Complete all training courses deemed appropriate to SEAT Driver job
• Be thoroughly familiar with NPS emergency procedures and respond should an emergency arise.
• Monitor and maintain a safe environment for riders and visitors walking on roadways.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Must have a valid, state-issued Driver’s License
• Must have clean driving record
• Preemployment Background - must be cleared
• Must have 2 years customer service experience
• TWIC required
• Must demonstrate good driving skills
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including conflict resolution skills
• Knowledge of another language in addition to English is preferred
• This position conducts random drug screenings
• Open schedule and ability to work any assigned schedule, including holidays and weekends
• Ability to work a shift that may start as early at 8:20 am or end as late as 10:00 pm. Shifts are 8 hours.
