Job summary

Hornblower Group’s Alcatraz City Cruises is seeking a Tram Driver to operate the tram on Alcatraz Island with a focus on safe, efficient service for visitors. The role involves maintaining the tram, managing boarding lines, and ensuring a smooth guest experience during July–November.

The position requires a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, TWIC, and 2 years of customer service experience, with the ability to work flexible shifts including early mornings and evenings.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid, state-issued Driver’s License.
• Must have a clean driving record.
• Preemployment background check is required.
• Must have 2 years of customer service experience.
• TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including conflict resolution.
• Knowledge of another language besides English is preferred.
• Position conducts random drug screenings.
• Open schedule with ability to work any assigned schedule, including holidays and weekends.
• Shift times may vary from 8:20 am to 10:00 pm; 8-hour shifts.

Position

The driver is directly responsible for operating the TRAM efficiently and safely on Alcatraz Island. This includes friendly and professional service to visitors, proper maintenance of the TRAM, and expert driving to provide comfort and minimize hazards. The tram driver also manages boarding lines and crowd control responsibilities at the Alcatraz dock. This position is for July – November.

Responsibilities

• Drive tram safely, according to driving guidelines outlined by National Park Service Standard Operating Procedures
• Prepare SEAT for daily operations prior to the start of the shift
• Ensure daily maintenance and safety checks are performed and logged, reporting all maintenance requirements to the Supervisor within the specified time frame
• Actively monitor and maintain a safe environment for visitors riding the tram and during de-boarding
• Maintain SEAT arrival and departure schedules within safety guidelines
• Advise visitors, as necessary, of site safety
• Strictly follow driving guidelines outlined in the National Park Service SOP
• Manage boarding and offloads of departures and arrivals; ensure boats depart in a timely manner
• Complete all training courses deemed appropriate to SEAT Driver role
• Be familiar with NPS emergency procedures and respond if an emergency arises
• Monitor and maintain a safe environment for riders and visitors walking on roadways
• Other duties as assigned

• Ability to work shifts that may start as early as 8:20 am or end as late as 10:00 pm. Shifts are 8 hours
