Training Specialist – Fiber Optic Maintenance Technician Trainer

Our work depends on a Training Specialist joining our team to deliver complex technical and tactical training to sailors enrolled in courses at Surface Combat Systems Training Command-Hampton Roads (SCSTC-HR), Norfolk, Virginia.

HOW A TRAINING SPECIALIST WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

• Develops, organizes, and conducts training and educational programs for customer personnel in classroom and lab environments.
• Utilizes exceptional customer skills to conduct traditional classroom instruction and support technical and tactical laboratory training.
• Works as a team member to identify learning gaps and train students on the repair and maintenance of organizational-level shipboard fiber optic terminations, covering basic and intermediate fiber optic components, troubleshooting, and repair of U.S. Navy shipboard fiber optic systems.
• Completes customer deadlines which may have competing or shifting priorities.
• Provides subject matter expertise in curriculum development for SCSTC-HR courses.
• Conducts dynamic assessments of sailors’ abilities to follow technical procedures, providing formal performance appraisals with recommendations for improvement and methods to maintain technical proficiency.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

Required Experience:

• Six (6) years of experience as a certified Fiber Optic Technician or as a 2M (Micro-Miniature) technician with certification in Fiber Optic Termination or Installation.
• Experience as a technical manager responsible for teaching system or function tasks in a master-level training environment.
• At least one (1) year of experience as an instructor in a Navy Training Environment, including curriculum maintenance, writing learning objectives, preparing test items, evaluating instructional materials, and counseling students.

Required Technical Skills: NAVSEA recognized Fiber Optic Certification

Security Clearance Level: SECRET

Required Skills and Abilities: Excellent communication skills and Navy instructor experience (NEC 805A/9502)

Preferred Skills: Master Training/Afloat Training Specialist
