Job summary

Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY) is seeking a Training Specialist to empower fathers through education, mentoring support, and community engagement as part of the Dads Who Lead program. This role strengthens father-child relationships and promotes family resilience through content development and coordinated training activities.

The Training Specialist supports workshops, reflects trauma-informed, culturally responsive practices, and maintains accurate records in DYCD systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, human services, social work or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience facilitating training or workshops, preferably in family development or community engagement.
• Knowledge of fathering programming best practices and adult learning principles.

Responsibilities

• Assist with development of curricula, workshops, and training activities.
• Plan learning outcomes based on program goals and objectives.
• Coordinate the online ProFathering15 curriculum for Tier 1 and 2 fathers.
• Lead and facilitate the eight-session SFI curriculum for Tier 3 and 4 fathers.
• Coordinate monthly and quarterly workshops with partner agencies.
• Manage event calendars and coordinate training activities.
• Track training completion and employment outcomes; maintain records in PTS.

MCNY enrolls approximately 1,000 students annually into its accelerated degree programs with convenient onsite and remote schedules for added flexibility.Program DescriptionDads Who Lead is a fatherhood program at MCNY designed to equip fathers and father figures with the knowledge, skills, mindset, and attitude necessary for positive parenting. The program typically provides parenting skills training and case management services to connect fathers and their families to needed resources.Role SummaryThe Training Specialist (TS) role focuses on empowering fathers through education, mentoring support, and community engagement. The position aims to strengthen father-child relationships, break cycles of poverty and disadvantage, and promote family resilience. The Training specialist works to uplift fathers, help them embrace their growth potential, and build stronger, more loving relationships with their children and co-parents.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist with development of content for curricula, workshops, and other training activities.Plan participants learning outcomes based on long- and short-term goals and program objectives.Coordinate the online ProFathering15 curriculum for Tier 1 and 2 fathers.Lead and facilitate the eight-session SFI curriculum for Tier 3 and 4 fathers.Coordinate monthly and quarterly workshops in collaboration with partner agencies.Plan and coordinate three annual family events and two community projects.Manage the calendar of events and coordinate training activities.Attend outreach events, including job fairs, to expand workforce networks.Support recruitment and retention efforts.Track training completion, certifications, and employment outcomes; maintain accurate records of sessions, attendance, milestones, incentive records (safeguard gift-card inventory), and participants progress data in DYCD’s Participant Tracking System (PTS).Generate monthly case notes and enter these notes and relevant supporting documents in the DYCD Connect data base.Ensure DYCD-required deliverables documents meet established guidelines and are submitted to the Program Director for approval.Perform other related duties as assigned by the Program Director.Special ProjectsHost sessions to raise awareness of fatherhood events and encourage fathers to participate.Engage in problem-solving and advocacy for policies and practices that support fathers, promoting their capacity for growth and change.Coach and mentor participants to ensure their success.Complete the National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI) Father-Friendly Check-Up; obtain/maintain Family Development Credential (FDC) or equivalent within first year.Participate in 12-15 hours of annual professional development and required mental-health trainings; attend DYCD learning community sessions.PREFERRED CORE COMPETENCIESExcellent training, facilitation, communication, and mentoring skills.Ability to integrate MCNY’s Purpose-Centered Education model and trauma-informed, culturally responsive practices.Willingness to advocate for fathers and their families.A solution mindset.Ability to manage stress and self-care.Ability to work comfortably and effectively across cultures.Experience with NYC public systems (e.g., DYCD, HRA, or ACS).A team player committed to collaboration and accountability.QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE PREFERREDBachelor’s degree in education, human services, social work or a related field, or equivalent experience.Experience working with custodial and noncustodial fathers, or in fatherhood, workforce development, or reentry programs.Minimum of two (2) years of experience facilitating training or workshops, preferably in family development or community engagement.Knowledge of fathering programming best practices, adult learning principles, and group facilitation.Familiarity with DYCD tracking system or ability to quickly learn theAvailable for occasional evening/weekend assignments.COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIREDProficiency in basic computer applications, Microsoft Office, virtual-meeting platforms, and data entry, ability to manage hybrid sessions.GENERAL REQUIREMENTSThis role is ideal for someone passionate about fatherhood development, workforce readiness, and creating inclusive, evidence-based training programs for fathers facing economic and social challenges.
