Job summary

XPO is seeking a Trailer Mechanic for the Afternoon Shift in Des Moines, IA. The role offers a 2:00pm–10:30pm schedule, company uniforms, a tool allowance, and comprehensive benefits on day one. Candidates should have at least 1 year in heavy-duty maintenance and hold a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities include performing routine maintenance on trailers, inspections, and repairs while following DOT, EPA, OSHA, and company guidelines. Strong safety practices and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• 1 year of verifiable experience in heavy-duty maintenance or entry-level technician role
• A valid driver's license
• Able to perform safety inspections and prepare documentation
• Basic computer skills
• Able to work days/evenings/nights/weekends
• Brake inspection qualified per FMCSA 369.25
• Vehicle inspection qualified per FMCSA 369.19
• Basic hand tools required for heavy-duty trailer maintenance

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and adjustments on trailers per manufacturers, DOT, and company schedules
• Inspect and access all areas of equipment for maintenance
• Repair or rebuild equipment systems as needed
• Adhere to DOT, EPA, OSHA and related regulations
• Maintain proficiency with equipment and technologies to improve productivity
• Move trailers and operate a hostler during various weather conditions
• Log job times and parts on repair orders
• Operate specialized tooling and vehicles
• Keep the work area clean, safe, and organized
• Interact with operations and shop management
