Qualifications

Position Summary:

Working alongside JPCL’s professional engineers, the Traffic/Transportation Engineer supports the design, development, implementation, and technical analysis on projects to suit individual client needs. The Traffic Engineer aids in preparing technical reports, contract documents and cost estimates for various engineering tasks, and works on multiple projects in a timely and cost-effective manner to meet client, contractual and company requirements.

General Responsibilities:

Conducts capacity analyses to determine how much traffic can logically fit on a roadway in a safe and efficient manner.

Conducts traffic counts for roadways and intersections to determine the volume of traffic, where the traffic is going to and from, and the type of traffic on the roadway.

Takes a second look at the safety features of a road.

Determines appropriate signing and pavement markings along a new or existing road.

Investigates accidents and determines if changes can be made to roadways or intersections to make it safer for all who use those roads.

Works closely with state or federal agencies, a developer or builder to determine the impact that a new development or construction project might have on the road system and then make recommendations to mitigate or offset the impact of that new development.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering is required with emphasis in Traffic/Transportation
  • Overall knowledge of traffic data collection, traffic modelling, signal design, traffic control plans and studies are a must
  • Working knowledge of traffic software: Synchro/Sim Traffic, Vissim, Guide sign, plus AutoCAD/MicroStation
  • Experience in the design and construction of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) infrastructure is desirable
  • Minimum of 2 years of related Transportation and/or Traffic Engineering experience required
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in New York and/or New Jersey is a plus
  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification is a plus
  • Experience working with state or municipal agencies (ex. Department of Transportation) is desirable
  • Knowledge and understanding of traffic engineering principals and standards (HCM, MUTCD, AASHTO and ITE)
  • Strong written, oral, communication, and organization skills will be required.
  • Team player and flexible with hours/availability
