Job summary

The City of Pittsburgh is seeking a Staff Engineer (Traffic Bureau) to help move people safely and efficiently through the city. You will analyze street conditions, plan traffic safety improvements, and manage signal timing and pavement marking plans.

This role coordinates with other departments and contractors on capital projects, performs field inspections, and ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Applicants in final semester may apply; hire occurs after graduation.
• Internship in Civil Engineering preferred.
• No work experience required.

Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate the design and management of complex civil construction projects in traffic and streets.
• Conduct non-complex engineering calculations and designs.
• Direct the work of professionals, technicians, and clerical staff on projects.
• Review shop drawings and studies related to traffic operations or safety.
• Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and contractual provisions; review reports and change orders.
• Perform field work including data gathering and inspections for traffic projects.
