Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach Public Works Department is seeking a Traffic Signs Markings Mechanic II to support the Traffic Management Operations group. You will safely operate heavy signs and marking equipment, install and maintain highway signs and roadway markings, and assist with work zone traffic control during events.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus five (5) years’ experience in traffic control or related work.
• Current and valid driver's license required.
• CDL preferred / may be required; CDL holders eligible for hiring bonus.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment such as Stake Body, Thermoplastic Truck, and Crash Truck.
• Install and maintain highway traffic signs and roadway markings.
• Set up and maintain work zone traffic control devices for detours and major events.
• Complete daily logs, pre/post checks, and material quantities; assist inventory.
