Job summary

The City of Chandler Public Works & Utilities Department seeks a Traffic Signs & Markings Technician to join our team. This full-time role runs Monday through Thursday, 5:00 am to 3:30 pm.

You will maintain, fabricate, and repair traffic signs and pavement markings, supporting safe and efficient city streets. Required: high school diploma or GED, 1 year in construction/maintenance, valid driver’s license, and IMSA certifications (Work Zone Safety within 6 months, Signs & Markings Level 1 within

  • Or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Job description

The City of Chandler Public Works & Utilities Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Traffic Signs & Markings Technician. This is afull-time position with benefits. The position is scheduled to work Monday through Thursday from 5:00 am to 3:30 pm. Current City of Chandler employees may only hold one position and are not eligible for additional part-time or secondary positions within the City of Chandler.

Who we are

The Public Works Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City’s capital projects, streets and traffic operations. The Public Works team oversees the planning, design, installation, maintenance and operation of all signs, pavement marking's, traffic signals, intelligent transportation systems and roadway lighting for all City Streets. This includes 238 signalized intersections, 800 traffic cameras, 29,000 streetlights, 22,000 regulatory and warning signs and 275 miles of roadway striping. Maintenance of over 2,090 lane miles of streets and 130 miles of alley's requiring asphalt patching, repair and replacement of curbs and gutters, sidewalk repair, debris removal and maintenance of landscaping in the City’s right of ways. We also oversee the acquisition of professional services, design, construction and construction management for transportation, utilities, community services and other general government improvements.

Who we are looking for

Our new team member will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are looking for someone to maintain, fabricate, and repair traffic signs, guide signs, and special-ordered signs, as well as perform various tasks associated with street pavement marking projects.

Minimum qualifications
  • A High School Diploma or GED; and
  • 1 year of experience in general construction and maintenance;and
  • Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record; and
  • Ability toobtain and maintain the IMSA (International Municipal Signal Association) certifications in the following:
    • Work Zone Traffic Control Safety Certification, within 6 months of hire or promotion date;
    • Signs and Markings Level 1 Certification, within 1 year of hire or promotion date;
  • Or, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

This is a regular full-time position, subject to a 6-month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for 4 months should another position become available.

The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.
