Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a seasoned traffic engineering leader to direct major programs involving signal systems, ITS, and corridor studies. The role sets internal and industry standards while applying deep knowledge of signal design, traffic control, and ITS across the US and internationally.

You will mentor engineers, manage client relationships with DOTs and private clients, develop cost estimates and bid packages, and ensure projects meet schedule and budget while maintaining compliance with NIST

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Traffic Engineering.
  • 18+ years of traffic engineering experience; an advanced degree may reduce the years required.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure in Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Lead major traffic engineering programs across the US and internationally.
  • Direct traffic impact studies, capacity and operations analyses, and safety evaluations from preliminary through final design.
  • Mentor junior engineers and drive business strategy for the discipline.
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings among design staff, subcontractors, and client managers.
  • Maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and private clients.
  • Identify schedule and cost variances and implement corrective-action recommendations.
  • Site visits as needed.

Job description

  • Serve as an industry-recognized technical leader directing major traffic engineering programs involving signal systems, ITS, and corridor and safety studies
  • Set internal and industry standards for technical approaches and methods in traffic engineering
  • Apply extensive knowledge across signal design, traffic control systems, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS)
  • Manage complex traffic engineering programs across Florida, the US, and potentially internationally
  • Direct traffic impact studies, capacity and operations analyses, and corridor/intersection safety evaluations from preliminary through final design
  • Maintain working relationships with regulatory agencies, local government, state DOTs, and private clients
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers developing signal timing plans, traffic control plans, and signing and pavement markings plans
  • Develop specifications, cost estimates, and final bid packages
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings among design staff, subcontractors, and client managers
  • Identify schedule and cost variances and implement corrective-action recommendations
  • Mentor junior engineers, manage key client relationships, and drive business strategy for the discipline
  • Conduct occasional site visits as needed
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Traffic Engineering
  • 18+ years of experience in traffic engineering; an advanced degree may reduce the years required
  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure in the state of FloridaExtensive and diversified knowledge across traffic engineering principles and methods, including signal design, traffic control systems, ITS, and traffic operations
  • Recognized for innovation in traffic engineering methodology or emerging technical areas
  • Expert in managing complex traffic engineering programs across the US and internationally
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and traffic modeling and analysis software such as Synchro, HCS, or VISSIM
  • Strong professional network with municipal, state, and federal DOT and regulatory agency staff
  • Recognized contribution to industry bodies or transportation forums preferred
  • Ability to set internal and industry standards for technical approaches and methods in transportation engineering
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
  • Legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and presentation of required documentation at hire
  • Ability to navigate unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment for some site visits
