Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an industry-leading Transportation Engineer to direct major traffic engineering programs, including signal systems, ITS, and corridor and safety studies, across the US and internationally.

You will mentor junior engineers, set technical standards, develop cost estimates and bid packages, and manage key client relationships while reporting to the Director, Transportation Engineering track.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Traffic Engineering required.
• 18+ years of traffic engineering experience; an advanced degree may reduce the years.
• Professional Engineering (PE) licensure in the state of Florida.
• Extensive knowledge of signal design, ITS, and traffic operations.
• Strong leadership and client-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct major traffic engineering programs involving signal systems, ITS, and corridor and safety studies.
• Set internal and industry standards for technical approaches and methods in transportation engineering.
• Apply extensive knowledge of signal design, traffic control systems, ITS, and traffic operations.
• Manage complex traffic engineering programs across the US and internationally.
• Direct traffic impact studies, capacity and operations analyses, and corridor/intersection safety evaluations from preliminary through final design.
• Maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, local government, state DOTs, and private clients.
• Mentor and assist junior engineers with signal timing plans, traffic control plans, and signing and pavement markings plans.
• Develop specifications, cost estimates, and final bid packages.
• Coordinate design activities and meetings among design staff, subcontractors, and client managers.
• Identify schedule and cost variances and implement corrective actions.
• Manage key client relationships and drive business strategy for the discipline.

Job description

• Serve as an industry-recognized technical leader directing major traffic engineering programs involving signal systems, ITS, and corridor and safety studies
• Set internal and industry standards for technical approaches and methods in traffic engineering
• Apply extensive knowledge of signal design, traffic control systems, intelligent transportation systems, and traffic operations
• Manage complex traffic engineering programs across the state, the US, and potentially internationally
• Direct traffic impact studies, capacity and operations analyses, and corridor/intersection safety evaluations from preliminary through final design
• Maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, local government, state DOTs, and private clients
• Mentor and assist junior engineers with signal timing plans, traffic control plans, and signing and pavement markings plans
• Develop specifications, cost estimates, and final bid packages
• Coordinate design activities and meetings among design staff, subcontractors, and client managers
• Identify schedule and cost variances and implement corrective actions

• Operate as an individual contributor with formal management responsibility held by the Director, Transportation Engineering track

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Transportation, or Traffic Engineering
• 18+ years of experience in traffic engineering; an advanced degree may reduce the years required
• Professional Engineering (PE) licensure in the state of Florida
• Extensive and diversified knowledge across traffic engineering principles and methods, including signal design, traffic control systems, ITS, and traffic operations
• Recognized for innovation in traffic engineering methodology or emerging technical areas
• Expert in managing complex traffic engineering programs across the US and internationally
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and traffic modeling and analysis software such as Synchro, HCS, or VISSIM
• Strong professional network with municipal, state, and federal DOT and regulatory agency staff
• Recognized contribution to industry bodies or transportation forums preferred
• Ability to set internal and industry standards for technical approaches and methods in transportation engineering
• Successful completion of a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
• Legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and ability to present required documentation at hire
