Senior Traffic Project Engineer

Position Overview

This is a strong opportunity for a traffic engineer ready to move beyond technical production and into project leadership. As a Senior Traffic Project Engineer, you will help lead traffic engineering projects across public and private sectors, including traffic impact analyses, traffic operations studies, signal design, safety analyses, and transportation planning assignments. This role blends technical depth with project management, client coordination, and team leadership.

The firm is seeking a Florida-licensed Professional Engineer who can manage multiple projects, mentor junior staff, and deliver high-quality transportation solutions for communities, agencies, and private-sector clients. You will work closely with a collaborative transportation team while supporting FDOT, municipal, and development-related projects throughout Florida.

Core Responsibilities
  • Lead and support traffic engineering projects from initial study through final deliverables
  • Prepare and review Traffic Impact Analyses, Traffic Operations Studies, Safety Studies, and Capacity Analyses
  • Conduct signal design, signal warrant analyses, timing and retiming studies, roundabout analyses, and turn lane queue evaluations
  • Perform traffic modeling, forecasting, and travel demand analysis using Synchro, HCS, SIDRA, FSUTMS, and related tools
  • Ensure traffic designs and analyses comply with FDOT, MUTCD, and local agency standards
  • Coordinate with surveyors, CAD designers, civil engineers, and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Prepare and review technical reports, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and project documentation
  • Manage multiple concurrent traffic engineering projects while tracking schedules, budgets, deliverables, and performance metrics
  • Prepare proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates, and support contract negotiations
  • Represent the firm in client meetings, public meetings, technical reviews, and project presentations
  • Provide technical quality control for traffic engineering deliverables
  • Mentor junior engineers and transportation staff while supporting career development and technical growth
  • Promote a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance team culture
  • Support business development and client relationship growth within the Florida transportation market
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related engineering discipline
  • Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Florida required
  • Experience: 6+ years of progressive experience in traffic design, traffic analysis, transportation engineering, and project management
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of traffic engineering principles, traffic control devices, signal design, safety standards, and traffic operations
  • Public Agency Experience: Proven experience working with public agencies, including FDOT
  • Software: Proficiency with Synchro, SIDRA, HCS, FSUTMS, AutoCAD and/or OpenRoads Designer (ORD)
  • Project Management: Ability to manage complex, multi-phase projects, schedules, budgets, deliverables, and client expectations
  • Communication: Excellent technical writing, presentation, coordination, and client-facing communication skills
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead project teams and mentor junior staff
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification: Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification preferred
  • Agency Coordination: Experience coordinating with FDOT, municipalities, counties, and regional transportation agencies
  • Alternative Delivery: Experience supporting transportation projects delivered through collaborative or alternative delivery methods
  • Business Development: Experience assisting with proposals, interviews, client presentations, and strategic pursuit efforts
  • Team Development: Prior experience coaching transportation engineers, analysts, designers, or technical staff
