Job summary

Stanley Consultants is seeking a Project Manager in Des Moines, IA to lead traffic engineering projects. You will design signal plans, prepare sequencing and traffic control plans, and guide ITS interconnects for urban and rural intersections.

You will mentor junior engineers, perform safety and traffic impact studies, and collaborate with clients and agencies to deliver practical, compliant solutions. A PE license and strong modeling skills are required.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering required.
• 8–10 years in traffic engineering or related fields.
• PTOE or RSP1 certification, or ability to obtain.
• Familiarity with MUTCD and DOT standards.
• Proficiency with traffic analysis software and modeling tools.
• Experience with DOT, county, and municipal projects.

Job description

• Serve as a Project Manager, Project Lead, or Task Lead on traffic and safety projects


• Design and prepare traffic signal plans for new and modified intersections


• Prepare construction sequencing, pavement marking, signing, and traffic control plans


• Design and prepare roadway lighting plans, traffic signal interconnect plans, and other ITS infrastructure


• Conduct and prepare traffic impact analyses, traffic signal warrant analyses, intersection design studies, safety studies, bicycle planning studies, and pedestrian planning studies


• Provide technical guidance and perform quality control reviews for traffic engineering studies and design projects


• Support local and national practice areas with traffic engineering expertise


• Mentor and supervise junior engineers


• Represent Stanley Consultants in technical meetings with agency representatives, clients, and contractors


• Develop innovative and practical technical solutions


• Build and maintain relationships with clients and internal teams


• Contribute ideas to project planning and development


• Support assignments across other Stanley Consultants offices as needed

Requirements

• Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering


• At least 8-10 years of relevant experience in traffic engineering, transportation planning, transportation safety, and/or Intelligent Transportation Systems


• Iowa Professional Engineer (PE) license


• Familiarity with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), Iowa DOT and local agency traffic engineering standards


• Proficiency with traffic analysis software


• Membership in ITE or other professional organizations aligned with traffic engineering


• Ability to work independently and as a team member


• Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) or Road Safety Professional 1 (RSP1) certification, or the ability to obtain


• Direct experience with DOT, local county, municipal, and/or developer-driven traffic engineering projects and project development


• Working knowledge of MicroStation or other CAD software packages


• Experience presenting at local or regional professional organization conferences


• Master of Science in Civil Engineering is a plus


• VISSIM or other microsimulation software experience is a plus
