Job summary

City of Pittsburgh is seeking a skilled professional to manage citywide traffic signal operations and maintenance within the Mobility & Infrastructure department. The role focuses on operating the TMC, coordinating with police and event staff, and ensuring safe, efficient travel during daily conditions and large events.

Candidates should meet the 3-year experience requirement in traffic systems and hold an Associate's Degree or related certification.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of full-time professional experience in traffic signal maintenance or related fields.
  • Associate's Degree or vocational certification in Electronics/Electrical, Mechatronics, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Total qualifying requirement is 5 years when combining education/training and work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manages traffic operations for signals integrated into the TMC.
  • Implements SOPs in response to events such as failures, incidents, or construction.
  • Works with Traffic Engineers to refine SOPs and gather implementation feedback.
  • Provides real-time traffic signal operation for large events nights/weekends.
  • Collaborates with Police and event staff to review/adjust special event traffic.
  • Assists ITS Technology Manager with integration of new ITS equipment into the TMC.
  • TMC software includes QFree Kinetic Mobility, Maxtime, Miovision One and CCTV.
  • Programs timing plans based on predetermined plans or traffic anomalies.
  • Performs field repairs of fiber, network switches, and signal controllers.
  • Monitors the traffic signal network daily and reports outages.
