Installs, removes, inspects, maintains, programs, and repairs electronic traffic control and signal equipment.

Department: Mobility and Infrastructure. Posting Type: Announcement/Bid. Salary: $26.62 per hour. Union: This position is included in the Pittsburgh Joint Collective Bargaining Committee and will be filled in accordance with provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Background investigations are conducted on all candidates and may result in disqualification based on criminal background, driver’s license, and city real estate tax payments.

General Requirements:

• Complete application with education, work experience, resume, and supplemental questions.
• Become a resident of the City of Pittsburgh before employment and remain a resident throughout employment.
• Current, valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License (or equivalent) prior to appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.

Qualifications:

• Two years of full‑time experience in traffic signal installation, maintenance, or a related field.
• No education or training requirement; however, education/training may substitute for work experience on a year‑for‑year basis to meet the total two‑year requirement.
• Official transcripts verifying post‑secondary education must be submitted before hire.

Position Duties:

• Installs, removes, inspects, maintains, programs, and repairs electronic traffic control and signal equipment.
• Locates and repairs defective underground and overhead cables and wires; tests circuits and makes required repairs.
• Repairs or rebuilds printed circuit boards brought back to the shop from field service calls.
• Removes tree branches interfering with lines or wires.
• Performs related construction work required to install equipment.
• Installs vehicle‑actuated loops in roadways for traffic control systems.
• Operates personal computer and peripheral equipment to access maintenance files and to upload and download information to and from traffic signals.
• May direct the work of lower‑level personnel at the job site on a project basis.
• Maintains records, both manually and electronically, and prepares accurate reports on service calls and inventory.
• May work all shifts, weekends, and holidays.
• Performs activities and functions of related lower‑level personnel as assigned or required.
• Performs other related tasks and duties assigned or required.
