Job summary

Iteris, Inc. is seeking a Control Room Operator in Staunton, VA to monitor real-time traffic across the transportation network and manage incident response from a central operations center.

You will use CCTV, ITS sensors, and data feeds to detect incidents, coordinate dispatch, and provide traveler information while maintaining safety protocols and effective communication with internal teams and partner agencies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in operations, dispatch, monitoring, communications, or customer service preferred.
• Strong proficiency with computer systems and Windows-based applications.

Responsibilities

• Monitor traffic conditions and roadway activity using CCTV, ITS, sensors, and data feeds.
• Perform continuous surveillance and system monitoring of transportation networks and signals.
• Detect, verify, and manage traffic incidents (e.g., crashes, stalled vehicles, congestion, roadwork).
• Initiate and coordinate incident response plans to minimize disruptions and maintain safety.
• Dispatch Safety Service Patrols, field technicians, and emergency responders using radio and communications systems.
• Operate a multi-system console environment, managing real-time data and network systems.
• Update and manage CMS and traveler information platforms (e.g., 511).
• Provide accurate, real-time customer and traveler information to the public and stakeholders.
• Document incidents and operations using reporting/ops systems for tracking and analysis.
• Communicate with internal teams, partner agencies, and external responders.
• Report system issues, equipment failures, and hazards to appropriate personnel.
• Support emergency operations and special event traffic management.
• Follow established policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
