Job summary

City of Fontana seeks an Engineering Technician II in the Traffic Division – Land Development Support to perform journey-level drafting and field engineering work, assisting with transportation planning and traffic design for land development projects. Position involves public interaction and coordination with multiple departments.

Requirements include two years of progressively responsible drafting/engineering experience and a high school diploma with specialized drafting/surveying training.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of drafting terminology, techniques and practices.
• Understanding of trigonometry as applied to angles, areas and distances.
• Basic surveying techniques and practices for field measurements.
• Knowledge of engineering maps and records.

Responsibilities

• Review and process tract maps, parcel maps, line adjustments, grants of easement, and street right-of-ways for recordation.
• Verify conditions of approval for new subdivisions; perform on-site inspections for survey monuments.
• Prepare and draft technical engineering plans for streets, storm drains, water lines and other public improvements.
• Provide public assistance at counter and over the phone.
• Prepare quantity and cost estimates for engineering projects.
• Maintain maps and records including tract maps, parcel maps, lot line adjustments and easements.
• Review engineering plans to determine layout of construction projects.
• Perform on-site inspections to obtain information and locate boundary lines and benchmarks.
• Make and check mathematical calculations related to surveying and drafting.
• Maintain survey records in field notes and sketches.
• Participate in engineering design and planning for municipal projects.
• Answer questions and provide information to the public about engineering activities.
• Assist in development and maintenance of filing systems.
• Prepare, assemble and distribute copies of maps, charts and blueprints.
