Job summary

Reynolds Smith & Hills Inc. is offering a Traffic Engineering Intern position in Colorado, mentored by senior engineers and involved in ITS, signal, lighting, signing and pavement marking design across diverse projects.

The role supports data collection, plan prep, and routine calculations while leveraging software tools. Requires ABET‑accredited Civil Engineering study, teamwork, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering at an ABET-accredited university.
• Interest and/or prior experience in transportation/traffic engineering.
• Ability to work independently with supervision as well as within a collaborative team environment.
• Willingness to work with different teams to meet project deadlines.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel).
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

The Opportunity

The Traffic Engineering Intern will be mentored by and collaborate with top Engineering associates on our team. The position involves participating in the development of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), signal, lighting, and signing and pavement marking design for a variety of project types. This is an amazing opportunity to gain hands‑on experience and a better understanding of Traffic Engineering and Transportation Engineering.

Responsibilities:

• Perform routine calculations requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles
• Prepare and revise plan documents details
• Collect and prepare data for evaluation
• Perform engineering with the use of computer-assisted engineering software and equipment
• Provide support to engineering and project management associates

Qualifications:

• Enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Program at an ABET accredited university
• Interest and/or prior experience in the field of transportation/traffic engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3.0 GPA or above
• Prior internship or related experience
• Coursework that includes Transportation and Traffic Engineering

• Experience or exposure to CDOT plans preparation and design standards

The pay rate for this position in Colorado ranges from $24 to $27 per hour. However, the selected individual’s compensation will be determined based on their specific education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
