Job summary

STV's Transportation team in Fairfax, VA is seeking a Traffic Engineering Group Lead to guide task orders and oversee design production for VDOT, DDOT, and local jurisdictions.

This hands-on leader will mentor junior engineers, manage schedules and budgets, and strengthen client relationships while delivering high-quality traffic studies and multimodal solutions across Virginia, Washington, DC, and the surrounding region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• PE license in Virginia or reciprocity within 6 months.
• PTOE, RSP, or Virginia Advanced Work Zone Certification is a plus.
• Ideally 10 years of traffic engineering experience, or 8+ with leadership.
• Experience with schedules, budgets, and staffing plans.

Responsibilities

• Lead task orders and small to mid-sized traffic projects from planning through final design.
• Oversee traffic studies and design plans, including signals, alignment, and MOT packages.
• Manage design production, delegate work, and mentor junior engineers.
• Support Vision Zero, safety, mobility, and multimodal improvements.
• Develop technical reports, cost estimates, and bid package materials.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to meet schedules and budgets.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients and agency stakeholders.
• Support business development through scope planning and proposals.
• Represent STV in client service efforts and industry events.
