Job summary

STV Incorporated in Fairfax, VA or Washington DC area seeks a Traffic Engineering Group Lead to guide planning through final design, mentor staff, and strengthen client relationships while delivering high‑impact mobility projects across VA, DC, and the region.

This leadership role focuses on coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing task orders, supporting business development, and ensuring technical quality and safety standards in transportation, signal timing, and multimodal solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Virginia PE license or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months is preferred.
• PTOE or Virginia Advanced Work Zone Certification a plus.
• Ideally 10 years of traffic engineering experience with strong leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead task orders and small to mid-sized traffic projects from planning through final design.
• Oversee traffic studies and design plans, including signal design, lighting, signing, and pavement markings.
• Manage design production, delegate work, and mentor junior engineers.
• Support Vision Zero, safety, mobility, and multimodal improvements across the region.
• Develop technical reports, specifications, cost estimates, and bid materials.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality work on schedule and budget.
• Build relationships with clients, agency stakeholders, and project managers.
• Support business development through scope development and proposals.
• Represent STV in client service efforts and professional organizations.
