Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Traffic Engineer to join our New England team, with offices in Boston, Glastonbury, and Providence. You will perform analyses, design roadways and intersections, and advance Complete Streets concepts while coordinating with DOT authorities and clients.

The role requires 3–5 years of experience, a PE license, and strong knowledge of MUTCD, AASHTO, and related standards. Occasional travel and a driving license are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or closely related discipline.
• 3–5 years of post-education traffic engineering experience.
• Professional Engineer license required, preferably in New England states.
• Proficient knowledge of MUTCD, HCM, NACTO, AASHTO guides and related standards.
• Experience with roadway planning, design, and construction management.
• Ability to lead and mentor team members with QA/QC focus.
• Proficient with MS Office and traffic engineering software.

Responsibilities

• Apply high-level traffic engineering techniques to identify improvements across project phases.
• Conduct investigations of site conditions, roadways, intersections, and signal systems.
• Develop innovative concepts for intersection and corridor improvements.
• Design ITS networks and signaling to enable real-time operations.
• Incorporate advanced technologies and data analytics into design standards.
• Provide technical guidance on complex traffic studies and capacity analyses.
• Prepare data visualizations and comprehensive technical reports.
• Collaborate with DOT authorities and clients on transportation projects.
• Stay current with latest traffic engineering practices.
