Job summary

SpiveyServices in Virginia offers a challenging Traffic Control Supervisor II role overseeing field crews and complex work zones. You will ensure VWAPM compliance, safety and high-quality execution across projects, while coaching junior supervisors and coordinating with inspectors and management.

This senior position emphasizes on-site leadership, decision-making under pressure, and delivering continuous improvements in the Traffic Control Division.

Qualifications

Valid Virginia Driver’s License required.
Must be able to work nights, weekends, and emergency deployments.
3–5 years of traffic control or construction field experience with at least 2 in a supervisory role.
Strong knowledge of VWAPM traffic control principles.
Experience reading and implementing traffic control plans independently.
Experience driving larger trucks (18’–24’), non-CDL.

Responsibilities

Oversee traffic control crews and ensure work zones meet VWAPM and project specs.
Conduct daily field audits, verify compliance and take corrective actions.
Manage stationary and mobile lane closures on limited-access highways.
Serve as on-site point of contact for contractors, inspectors, and leadership.
Review complex traffic control plans and ensure efficient crew layouts.
Coordinate daily readiness, staffing, and equipment deployment.
Adjust setups in real time for emergencies, changes, or safety concerns.
Provide hands-on training to new employees and supervisors.
Model safety, productivity and professionalism across crews.
Participate in onboarding and development of junior supervisors.
Maintain logs for activities, attendance, safety observations and incidents.

KeyResponsibilities

Conductdailyfieldaudits,verifycompliance,andexecutecorrectiveactionswhennecessary.
Performbothstationaryandmobilelaneclosuresonlimited‑accesshighways,ensuringpropersetup,monitoring,andbreakdownoftrafficcontroldevicesinaccordancewithstateandfederalsafetystandards.
Serveastheprimaryon‑sitepointofcontactforcontractors,inspectors,andcompanyleadershipforassignedprojects.
Reviewandinterpretcomplextrafficcontrolplans;ensurecrewsexecutelayoutsaccuratelyandefficiently.
Coordinatedailyjobreadiness,staffing,andequipmentdeployment.
Adjustworkzonesetupsinrealtimetorespondtoemergencyconditions,projectchanges,orsafetyconcerns.
Providehands‑ontrainingtonewemployees,Flaggers,TrafficControlAssistants,andSupervisorIpersonnel.
Modelandenforcehighstandardsofsafety,productivity,andprofessionalism.
Participateinonboarding,skillsassessments,anddevelopmentofjuniorsupervisors.
Maintainaccuratelogsforjobactivities,crewattendance,safetyobservations,andincidentreports.
Ensurevehicles,equipment,andmaterialsassignedtocrewsareproperlymaintained,stocked,andinspected.
CommunicatedailyoperationalupdatestotheTrafficOperationsManagerordepartmenthead.
Championasafety-firstcultureacrossallcrewsandsites.
Conducthazardassessmentsandleadtailgatemeetingswhensupervisingmultiplecrews.
Respondtoandhelpmanageanyfieldincidentsornear‑missesinaccordancewithcompanyprotocols.

Qualifications

Required:
