Job summary

SpiveyServices in Virginia is seeking a Traffic Control Supervisor to lead field crews for safe and efficient workzone setup, maintenance, and takedown. You will ensure compliance with VWAPM and client specifications while coordinating staffing and equipment across projects.

The role requires Virginia driving credentials, 2+ years in traffic control, strong safety knowledge, and the ability to manage crews and respond to changes and emergencies.

Qualifications

• Must have valid Virginia driver’s license.
• Minimum 2 years of field experience in traffic control or construction.
• Strong understanding of basic traffic control principles and safety procedures.
• Experience driving larger trucks (18’–24’) with CDL not required.
• Ability to lead small teams in the field with professionalism.
• Availability for day or night shifts, weekends, and emergency deployments.

Responsibilities

• Oversee traffic control crews and ensure workzones are set up, monitored, and removed per VWAPM and project requirements.
• Conduct daily field audits, verify compliance, and take corrective actions as needed.
• Perform stationary and mobile lane closures on limited-access highways with proper setup and device breakdowns.
• Serve as on-site point of contact for contractors, inspectors, and leadership.
• Review and interpret traffic control plans to ensure crews execute layouts accurately and efficiently.
• Coordinate daily job readiness, staffing, and equipment deployment.

PositionOverview

AsaTrafficControlSupervisor,youwillberesponsibleforthesafeandeffectivesetup,maintenance,andtakedownofworkzonesinaccordancewiththeVirginiaWorkAreaProtectionManual(VWAPM)andclientspecifications.Youwillsuperviseacrewinthefield,coordinatejobreadiness,maintainaccuratereports,andensuretheworkzoneprotectsbothworkersandthetravelingpublic.

KeyResponsibilities

• Participateinonboarding,skillsassessments,anddevelopmentofjuniorsupervisors.
• Maintainaccuratelogsforjobactivities,crewattendance,safetyobservations,andincidentreports.
• Ensurevehicles,equipment,andmaterialsassignedtocrewsareproperlymaintained,stocked,andinspected.
• CommunicatedailyoperationalupdatestotheTrafficOperationsManagerordepartmenthead.
• Championasafety-firstcultureacrossallcrewsandsites.
• Conducthazardassessmentsandleadtailgatemeetingswhensupervisingmultiplecrews.
• Respondtoandhelpmanageanyfieldincidentsornear‑missinaccordancewithcompanyprotocols.

Qualifications
