Job summary

The Department of Transportation in New York City seeks a Traffic Control Inspector, Level 1, for the Signals Timing and Intersection Control Unit. The role involves conducting surveys and studies for traffic signals, LPIs, and related controls across all five boroughs.

Responsibilities include analyzing traffic conditions, recommending signage, signals, APS, and pavement markings. A NY driver license is required and residency in NYC is generally required within 90 days of appointment.

Qualifications

• Four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus two years of traffic regulation/ studies OR an associate degree in a related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• College credits substituted at 30 credits per year of experience; 6 of those credits must be in related fields.
• Must possess NY driver license; residency requirement and assignments may apply.

Responsibilities

• Conduct surveys and studies for traffic signals, All-Way Stop controls, left-turn treatments, and LPIs across all five boroughs.
• Analyze traffic conditions to identify congestion and crash patterns and recommend improvements to signs, signals, APS, lighting, and markings.
• Study and document traffic operations; prepare field sketches and blueprints as needed.
• Coordinate with other units and maintain license throughout employment.
