Job summary

New York City Department of Transportation is seeking a qualified Supervisor of Electrical Installations and Maintenance to oversee electrical work for street lighting and traffic signals. The role emphasizes ensuring quality, safety, and contractor performance within NYC Streets Plan initiatives.

The candidate should have four years of relevant experience, with possible substitutions for education as allowed, and must possess a valid NY driver license.

Qualifications

• Four years of full-time satisfactory experience in installation, repair and/or inspection of electrical equipment and systems.
• Combination of education and experience substituting for the required experience (Engineering degree may substitute up to 60 credits).
• One year of experience in a NYC city agency or authority performing full range duties in electrical installation/inspection (for this exam).

Responsibilities

• Supervise electrical installations for street lighting, traffic signals, and capital projects.
• Ensure contract compliance, verify billing accuracy, review plans and specs.
• Direct and follow up on street lighting orders, enforcement, and related inspections.
• Coordinate with other city agencies, explain technical standards, and inspect materials and equipment.
• Oversee construction activities performed by contractors and monitor repairs and installations.
• Investigate complaints, assess site conditions, and ensure timely resolutions.
• Prepare Street Lighting and/or Signals Maintenance contracts.
• Perform additional related duties as assigned.
