Job summary

American Flagging, part of the Helix Traffic Solutions network, is hiring a Traffic Control Apprentice. You’ll help manage traffic around construction zones, learn safety procedures, and earn certification during orientation. No prior traffic control experience is required, and a retention bonus supports your growth.

Starting pay is $20.00 per hour with a plan for ongoing training, PPE, and career development in a fast-paced outdoor environment across the Northeast.

Qualifications

• Be 18 years of age or older and able to pass a drug screen.
• Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• No prior traffic control experience required; training provided.

Responsibilities

• Control vehicle and pedestrian traffic around work zones using signs, paddles, or flags.
• Set up and dismantle temporary traffic control zones with signs and cones.
• Communicate clearly with drivers to guide traffic safely.
• Monitor traffic and site activity to prevent hazards.
• Coordinate with team using radios and signals; follow PPE rules.
• Assist with loading/unloading equipment as needed.
