Job summary

U.S. Xpress is seeking a Technician II Tractor in Chicago, IL. The role involves diagnosing, repairing tractors and related mechanical systems, performing DOT inspections, and prepping units for next driver.

Must have a high school diploma and at least 2 years of tractor experience; a diesel tech diploma may substitute for one year. Valid driver's license required. Work hours Wednesday through Saturday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm; remote work not offered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of tractor experience.
• A Technical Diploma from an accredited Diesel Technology Program may substitute for 1 year of the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair transmissions, engines, electrical systems, and other mechanical components.
• Repair/replace bolt-on body parts such as hoods and cab extenders.
• Perform DOT inspections as outlined in USX guidelines.
• Prepare tractors for next driver by performing open seat inspections.
• Perform 90 day lease operator inspections.
• Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
• Use diagnostic equipment and resources to maintain vehicles.
• Drive trucks in and out of shop before and after repairs.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area and meet productivity targets.
