Job summary

Educational Service Center of Central Ohio is seeking a Head Coach to lead and coach student athletes in their sport. The role reports to the Athletic Director/Principal and focuses on developing skill, discipline, and confidence.

Responsibilities include planning practice schedules, coordinating with the athletic director on contests, and enforcing sportsmanship while maintaining proper records and safety practices. Salary and contract terms are established by the Board.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Pupil Activity Supervisor Permit required.
• Valid Ohio certification/licensure required.
• Alternatives to the above qualifications may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Coaches individual participants in skills for excellence in the coach’s sport.
• Plans and schedules a regular practice program in season.
• Works with athletic director on scheduling intramural and interscholastic contests.
• Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate.
• Maintains attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
• Oversees safety conditions of the facility where the sport is conducted.
• Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition.
• Enforces discipline and sportsmanship, and oversees penalties.
• Maintains communication with parents and parent organizations.

Job Goal

To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.

Performance Responsibilities

1. Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
2. Plans and schedules a regular program of practice in season.
3. Works closely with the athletic director in the scheduling of intramural and interscholastic contests.
4. Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms, as appropriate.
5. Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
6. Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
7. Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in the coach’s sport.
8. Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by the individual students.
9. Maintains communication with parents & parent organizations.

Terms of Employment

Salary and work year as established by the Board and terms of contract.

Performance of this job is evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
