Job summary

Educational Service Center of Central Ohio is seeking an Assistant Coach to support athletic programs and help students develop skills and self-esteem. You will work under the Head Coach/Athletic Director/Principal to implement practice plans and monitor safety.

Requirements include a valid Ohio certification/licensure and a Bachelor’s degree, with opportunities to align with the Pupil Activity Supervisor Permit where applicable.

Qualifications

• Valid Ohio certification/licensure required.
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Alternatives to listed qualifications may be accepted by the Board.
• Pupil Activity Supervisor Permit required or as specified.

Responsibilities

• Coaching individual participants to develop sport-specific skills.
• Plan and schedule regular practices for the season.
• Coordinate with athletic director to schedule intramural and interscholastic contests.
• Recommend equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate.
• Maintain attendance, insurance records and other paperwork.
• Oversee safety conditions of facilities during activities.
• Establish eligibility criteria and oversee discipline and sportsmanship.
• Maintain communication with parents and parent organizations.

Head Coach/ Athletic Director/Principal

JOB GOAL

To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.

Performance Responsibilities

Assists the Head Coach in the following:

• Coaching individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
• Planning and scheduling a regular program of practice in season.
• Working closely with the athletic director in the scheduling of intramural and interscholastic contests.
• Recommending purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate.
• Maintaining necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and other paperwork.
• Overseeing the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
• Establishing performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in the coach’s sport.
• Enforcing discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishing and overseeing penalties for breach of such standards by the individual students.
• Maintaining communication with parents & parent organizations.

Additional Working Conditions

• Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
• May perform strenuous tasks, such as lifting, when working with students.
• Excellent observation and communication skills
• Supervision of students in the cafeteria, schoolyard, and hallways, or on field trips
• Assisting students with behavioral/management needs
• Ability to interact with a diverse population of internal and external stakeholders.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and work year as established by the Board and terms of contract.
